Four cases of African swine fever have been confirmed in samples taken from four individual households in the country. According to the National Food Safety Agency, these cases are from the village of Talaiesti, Hancesti district, the locality of Calimanesti, Nisporeni district, and the locality of Clocusna in the Ocnita district, reports IPN.
As a result, the Territorial Commissions for Crisis Management were convened in the three districts. They have taken measures to prevent the spread of the disease and have established protection and surveillance zones. In addition, ANSA has imposed restrictions on the transport and sale of pigs from non-professional households, and commercial farms will be required to test their stocks weekly. These will remain in effect until the risks of spreading African swine fever are eliminated.
The authorities will also test the condition of pigs on farms, conduct surveys in non-professional households, and monitor wild boar populations. African swine fever is a serious disease that affects domestic pigs and wild boars. The disease does not transmit to humans, but it can cause huge losses in the livestock sector, as all animal stocks in the outbreak area must be culled.
