The administration of the Transnistrian region has decided to reduce the number of so-called local deputies. The decision was approved by the Supreme Soviet in Tiraspol at the end of the session. This concluded on June 9, as reported by IPN.
Thus, the Soviet has decided to optimize the number of deputies in village councils. The maximum number of councillors, who will be elected from villages with up to 3 thousand voters, will be reduced from 15 to 11.
In villages with more than 3 thousand voters, a maximum of 13 councilors can be elected, compared to 21 at present.
After optimization, the total number of deputies in the rural councils of the region will be approximately 525. Currently there are 716. The decision regarding the “optimization” was taken in the context of ongoing rumors according to which the Transnistrian region is facing serious financial problems due to unstable gas deliveries.
The industry, which generated profit for the region thanks to the free Russian gas, has suffered. Now there is enough gas only for the population’s needs.
Optimizations of deputies at all levels have taken place previously, during the period 2015-2020. For example, in 2020, the number of deputies in the so-called supreme soviet was reduced from 43 to 33.
