Prime Minister Vasile Tofan categorically rejects the accusations that former Prime Minister Dorin Recean continues to influence the Government’s activity from the shadows. The head of the executive maintains that he exercises his mandate independently and has full freedom in making the decisions he deems necessary, reports IPN.
Referring to the relationship he has with his predecessor, the Prime Minister stated that he has only met Dorin Recean three times since taking office. “All meetings took place at my request, because Mr. Recean was managing many things in the security sector, and I wanted to transfer this sector to myself,” Vasile Tofan explained during the “Face to Face” show on the public television station.
The Prime Minister also commented on the perception that Dorin Recean would continue to influence the executive’s decisions. He assured that he does not receive directions from anyone and that there is no person who would govern the Republic of Moldova from the shadows.
“There is a perception that Recean continues to pull the strings. I am not a man who can be pulled by a string. I want to assure you of this. No one calls me and no one gives me directions. If you have the impression that there is someone in the shadows and is the great leader of Moldova. He is not. I assure you. I have all the freedom to make the decisions I consider necessary,” said the Prime Minister.
