Pope Leo XIV received the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, in an audience. The meeting took place today in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican City, reports IPN.
In a public message, President Maia Sandu stated that the discussions with Pope Leo XIV focused on peace, faith, and solidarity. The President added that the Pope expressed his support for the Moldovan people. “His Holiness assured me that Moldova is seen, is heard,” wrote Maia Sandu.
After the meeting with the Sovereign Pontiff, the head of state had a separate meeting with the Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, and with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
According to the statement released by the Holy See Press Office, both parties expressed satisfaction for the positive bilateral relations between Moldova and the Holy See, underlining the desire for consolidation.
The talks also focused on the situation of peace and security at the local, regional, and international levels, with emphasis on recent developments in Ukraine, the Presidency communicates.
