At the end of his term, EU ambassador Jānis Mažeiks was invited to the Presidency

The constant support of the European Union in modernizing the Republic of Moldova and in managing the challenges of recent years was emphasized during the meeting between President Maia Sandu and the EU ambassador to Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks, who is ending his term, reports IPN.

During the meeting, it was mentioned that in its four years of diplomatic activity, the Republic of Moldova has gone through essential stages in its European journey. Among these are the submission of the EU membership application in March 2022, obtaining candidate country status in June of the same year, and the opening of accession negotiations in December 2023.

The head of state mentioned that European support was essential for projects aimed at infrastructure, energy security, economic development, and improving the living conditions of citizens.

At the same time, Maia Sandu wished Jānis Mažeiks success in his new responsibilities and reiterated that European integration remains the most important objective for the Republic of Moldova.

Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks was appointed head of the European Union Delegation in the Republic of Moldova in 2021. Before the end of his term, the envoy had meetings with several Moldovan dignitaries.
