Last week, the National Anti-Corruption Center seized nearly 18 million lei, an amount raised in the case of illegal financing of a political party. The funds were taken over by the Agency for the Recovery of Criminal Assets, according to a delegation issued by the criminal investigation officers, reports IPN.
According to CNA, the money was deposited into the treasury accounts of the institution, in accordance with the legal procedures regarding the administration of seized assets.
Two months ago, the CNA and the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office carried out searches in the capital, targeting a group suspected of being involved in a coordinated plan for illegal financing of parties ahead of the elections on September 28. Among the targeted individuals are decision-makers, members and supporters of political formations, suspected of illegally directing funds towards them.
During the searches, financial means in various currencies were seized, amounting to over 20 million lei, as well as other relevant evidence.
CNA specifies that ARBI will take over the administration of other foreign currency amounts, previously raised, as soon as the necessary accounts for their deposit are opened.
All of last week, the Agency for the Recovery of Criminal Assets of the CNA applied seizures on illicitly obtained assets worth over 11 million lei. In addition, the Agency issued a freezing order on a bank account amounting to over 63 thousand lei, and several seizures previously applied, worth about 7 million lei, were confirmed by court rulings.
The agency also reports the placement of 10 types of cryptocurrency in the virtual wallet, with a total value of 85 thousand dollars.
