Five million euros will be directed towards the modernization and energy efficiency of 15 model schools in the Republic of Moldova. The government approved today the signing of the Grant Agreement with the Development Bank of the Council of Europe, reports IPN.
According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the funds will be invested in the thermal insulation of buildings, the installation of automatic temperature control systems, the mounting of energy meters, the replacement of conventional lighting with energy-efficient solutions, as well as in the installation of solar and photovoltaic panels.
The 15 schools were selected in accordance with the “model-schools” concept. The aim of the modernization is to reduce maintenance costs and improve study conditions for 12 800 students and 800 teaching staff.
According to estimates, thermal energy consumption will be reduced by up to 60%, and electrical energy consumption – by approximately 30%. “We will continue to invest in education, as it is a strategic necessity for the Republic of Moldova,” stated Prime Minister Dorin Recean, during the Government meeting.
