Around two thousand people allegedly illegally detained in prisons in the Transnistrian region

All individuals deprived of liberty and held in the prisons of the unconstitutional authorities in Tiraspol, regardless of the charges against them, have the constitutional right to a fair trial before constitutional courts. These clarifications were made by the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, IPN reports.

Authorities, as well as international and non-governmental organizations dedicated to human rights protection, have consistently advocated for the unconditional release of all detainees or, where applicable, their transfer to pre-trial detention facilities on the right bank for investigation by the relevant institutions, according to a press release issued by the Bureau.

In the context of recent discussions between Chisinau and Tiraspol regarding gas supply to the left bank, an agreement was reached, in coordination with European institutions, to gradually release political detainees documented by Promo-LEX.

Currently, approximately two thousand people are being held in detention facilities under the control of the unconstitutional authorities in Tiraspol, the source specifies.
