BNM has launched a commemorative coin dedicated to Moldova’s accession to SEPA

A new commemorative coin was put into circulation on Friday, marking the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area. With this issue, the National Bank of Moldova opens the jubilee series “European Moldova” and launches the first coin titled “Moldova in the Single Euro Payments Area”, a symbol of European financial integration, reports IPN.

According to BNM, the currency reflects the journey of the Republic of Moldova towards SEPA, a process completed in 2025, which allowed the connection of the national payment system to the European infrastructure. The event is presented by the National Bank as a moment with a direct impact on citizens and the business environment, by facilitating fast and secure payments in the European space.

The Governor of the BNM, Anca Dragu, emphasized that the Republic of Moldova’s accession to SEPA is proof that Moldovan institutions can generate concrete results for citizens and companies, “bringing the state closer to the European financial space through modern, secure and accessible solutions”.

The coin is made of silver, has a value of 100 lei and a circulation of 2,500 copies. It is intended for the numismatic circuit and can be purchased through BNM or licensed banks. The coin comes with a certificate of authenticity and presentation elements, for collectors. The author of the graphic design is Eugeniu Boico, a professor at the State University of Moldova, and the creator of the “Tree of Life”, the tourist brand of Moldova.
