Cyprus takes over the Presidency of EU Council. Maia Sandu:We await the mandate with confidence

Cyprus has taken over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1st. On this occasion, President Maia Sandu sent a congratulatory message and expressed her confidence in a close cooperation during the Cypriot mandate, reports IPN.

“Our warmest wishes to Cyprus, which is taking over the EU Presidency, and to President Nikos Christodoulides. We look forward with hope and confidence to the coming months”, stated the head of state.

At the same time, Maia Sandu thanked Denmark and the prime minister of this country for the leadership and dedication they have shown over the last six months, a period during which the Nordic state held the presidency of the EU Council.

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union is exercised by rotation by the member states, for mandates of six months each. Thus, until June 2026, Cyprus will coordinate the Council of the EU meetings at the ministerial level and will act as a mediator in the negotiations between the 27 member states.
