Doina Gherman: The European agenda will be the legislature’s priority in the coming months

Harmonizing national legislation with European standards will be a key priority for the legislature in the coming months, according to Parliament Vice President Doina Gherman. She said that immediately after the Munteanu government is sworn in, Parliament will focus its efforts on two major areas: budgetary adjustments and continuing the European agenda, IPN reports.

According to Doina Gherman, one of the major challenges facing Parliament will be to speed up the adoption of the remaining projects in the National Accession Plan.

“The budget amendment will be presented. This project is planned for November-December. We have some outstanding issues from the previous legislature, especially on the European agenda. If we are to talk about projects with the EU logo, about harmonising legislation, we had 236 projects planned for 2025 in the National Accession Plan, but we only managed to complete 144 before the elections,” said Doina Gherman on the public television programme “În context” (In Context).

The Vice-President of Parliament noted that while MPs were involved in the election campaign, ministries continued their work and several initiatives are already prepared to be submitted to the legislature. “We have many projects from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Education, because while MPs were campaigning, ministries were still functioning and projects were being prepared,” Doina Gherman added.

Doina Gherman, a member of the Action and Solidarity Party, was re-elected on Thursday as vice-president of Parliament. Similarly, socialist MP Vlad Batrîncea was re-elected as vice-president of the legislature on behalf of the opposition.
