After two days of protests in the provinces, the Farmers’ Force Association decided to suspend them and accept Prime Minister Dorin Recean’s proposal to resume negotiations. Representatives of the Association however warn that, if the talks do not end in a written agreement, the farmers will stage a large-scale protest in Chisinau and throughout the country on June 19.
“Next week, we will actively participate in negotiations with Mr. Recean on the farmers’ demands, in particular on the matter of urgent financial support for small and medium-sized farmers for Group 1 crops, the urgent disbursement of overdue subsidies, and the requirement that the Giurgiulești Port prioritizes exports of Moldovan crops”, the Association said in a statement.
The Farmers’ Force said it will hold meetings in all districts to inform and mobilize farmers. “If we do not see progress in these negotiations, which should be confirmed in writing by the Prime Minister, on Monday, June 19, we will stage a large-scale protest, with the use of agricultural vehicles, in the capital city and throughout the country, with possible blocking of all main roads for a certain period”, the Association warned.
