“Eugen Doga left today to compose music for angels” – this is the message through which the Ministry of Culture announced the passing of one of the most beloved and valuable artists of the Republic of Moldova. The composer passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a musical legacy that has gone beyond the country’s borders, IPN reports.
The Ministry reiterates that Eugen Doga had a life dedicated to music, starting from the sounds of childhood and ending with the great stages of the world. From his youth he came to Chisinau to study music, and since then he has never stopped creating. He was a composer, teacher, orchestrator and mentor for entire generations.
Throughout his career, he composed over 200 works for film and theater, numerous symphonic pieces, romances and waltzes. One of his most famous creations is the waltz from the film “Gingasa și tandra mea fiara”, directed by Emil Loteanu, considered by UNESCO one of the four musical masterpieces of the 20th century.
Doga’s music was appreciated internationally, being present both at official ceremonies and in people’s daily lives. However, Eugen Doga always remained a modest presence, close to the public, frequently participating in meetings with students and speaking sincerely about his family and roots. He often said that “family is my original harbor”, and by his side were his wife Natalia and his daughter, Viorica, who continues the artistic tradition through documentary film.
“Eugen Doga is not just the composer of a nation – he is the universal artist of the soul. He will always remain a sound bridge between the classic and the contemporary, between the heart and the universe. All of Moldova will sound as he saw it!”, the ministry’s press release states.
Through his music, Eugen Doga built a bridge between the past and the present, between the classic and the contemporary. Today, Moldova says goodbye to an artist who transformed sound into emotion and offered the whole world a part of his soul.
“Eugen Doga was not only a composer of a nation, but a universal artist, who united generations through music. Today, when his notes remain suspended in memory, Moldova says to him with gratitude and pain: “Rest in peace, Maestro”, concluded the Ministry of Culture.
