The United States of America has fully restored Hungary’s status in the Visa Waiver Program. The decision is justified by the White House on the grounds that the executive in Budapest has taken measures to remedy security vulnerabilities, reports IPN.
The respective program allows foreign citizens from 40 countries to travel to the United States of America and stay for up to 90 days without a visa.
In 2021, the American Department of Homeland Security revoked the electronic approvals already issued to all Hungarian passport holders born outside the borders of Hungary and continued to refuse new applications from applicants born outside Hungary. In August 2023, the then leader of the White House, Joe Biden, reduced the validity period for Hungarian travelers from two years to one year.
