Journalist and media expert Viorica Zaharia was reelected president of the Press Council of Moldova in the first meeting of the new Council, IPN reports.
During the next two years, the Council will consist of five journalists and four representatives of media consumers.
The representatives of the journalistic guild are mostly print journalists: Olga Ceaglei, who was proposed by the Media Project “CU SENS”; Viorica Zaharia, proposed by the Association of Independent Press (API); Veaceslav Perunov, fielded by the editorial staff of the newspaper “SP” and the portal Esp.md; Olga Stăvilă, suggested by the Journalistic Investigations Center, and Piotr Garciu, proposed by the editorial staff of the portal Laf.md/Association “Media Birlii – Uniunea Media”.
The media consumers in the Press Council will be represented by: Natalia Porubin, proposed by a group of ten media consumers; Natalia Grîu, fielded by the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova; Natalia Vișanu, suggested by the Association for Child and Family Empowerment “AVE COPIII”, and Andrei Bivol, proposed by the Laboratory of Initiatives for Development “LID Moldova”.
The Press Council is an independent self-managing journalistic body that monitors the implementation of the Journalist’s Deontological Code of the Republic of Moldova and examines complaints with regard to violation of ethical standards.
