Maia Sandu invites parties to consultations Thursday

President Maia Sandu plans to hold consultations with representatives of parties this Thursday to address the actions to be taken to fight political corruption. Similar discussions will be organized with representatives of civil society, IPN reports.

“What happened in the recent elections and in the referendum did not affect a political party or a candidate. A series of candidates and political parties were affected by vote buying. And we all want the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to decide who should lead the country, not the dirty money that comes from one side or the other,” the head of state said at a press conference held after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council.

According to the official, the Government’s proposals and the proposals that the political parties have on the subject will be debated at these discussions. They will consider how it is possible, as quickly as possible, to penalize and root out political corruption and vote buying. According to Maia Sandu, this is an extremely dangerous phenomenon for the democracy of the Republic of Moldova and for the country’s security.

“We continue the discussions in the coming days and in a maximum of 10 days we must have all the plans discussed, developed and consensus, if you want, at the national level, on these actions that we must undertake,” said President Sandu.

The Supreme Security Council was convened on Monday morning to discuss political corruption and the need to streamline measures to combat it.
