Mircea Geoană condemns “unjustified and criminal terrorist attacks” in Israel

NATO Deupty Secretary General Mircea Geoană condemned the “unjustified and criminal terrorist attacks” committed by Hamas against the State of Israel. This was stated in a speech delivered on the occasion of the 69th annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, taking place in Copenhagen during October 6-9.

“We are shocked and horrified by the terrorist attacks committed by Hamas against our NATO partner, the State of Israel. Over the past two days, we have seen thousands of rockets fired at Israel, indiscriminate attacks on civilians and mass kidnappings. I strongly condemn these unjustified and criminal acts. Our thoughts are with the victims, their relatives and families, and the Israeli people. Israel has the right and responsibility to defend itself and its citizens”, declared Mircea Geoană.

The NATO official added that he is deeply concerned that among those killed, injured or kidnapped, there are also citizens of many countries, including citizens of many NATO allied countries. According to him, the national authorities of these countries are doing everything they can to help their citizens in such a difficult situation. “I know they have energy and talent, and Israel’s future will continue to be bright. And I know that this country will overcome this difficult situation”, said Geoană.

Israel is at war after a military offensive launched Saturday morning by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, which launched thousands of rockets, killing hundreds, infiltrating fighters into Israeli territory and capturing Israelis. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Israel operates in alert mode, 24/7. A crisis cell was created within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration that monitors the security situation in Israel and is in permanent contact with the Embassy and other competent institutions.
