The national forestry agency Moldsilva on Saturday is starting the Plant Your Future campaign.
Various species of trees will be planted as part of the campaign, including oak, acacia, walnut, maple, sycamore and wild cherry. Moldsilva director Valeriu Caisîn told IPN that forestry projects were made for different areas, with 5,000 to 6,000 saplings to be planted per hectare in each sector.
“Before planting these trees, we communicate with the local administrations to identify lands. We go to the village halls and explain the conditions under which they offer these areas. We conclude a contract for the care of forest crops for up to 10 years. After that, the forested lands will return to the village’s property”, said Caisîn.
Specialists will analyze the soils and decide on suitable tree species and planting density. “The campaign will run throughout the month of March. After the saplings enter the vegetation phase, we will no longer be able to plant them, because they cannot root once they begin blooming”, said Valeriu Caisîn.
Some 13,000 hectares of land have been identified for planting to date. Anyone willing to take part in the planting effort is encouraged to visit Moldsilva’s website for details.
