PAS MP Sergiu Litivinenco and PSRM MP Grigore Novac exchanged harsh replies over the results of a poll conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI). The representatives of the PAS, who enjoy the biggest trust among the people according to the poll, said the study is credible and the Socialists will lose a considerable number of the seats of MP held at present. For his part, Socialist MP Grigore Novac accused the PAS of putting the people’s health in danger by aiming to hold elections during the pandemic so as to expand their parliamentary group, IPN reports.
The IRI poll shows the PAS at the next elections would gain 33% of the vote, while the PSRM – 19% of the poll. Renato Usatyi’s party would gain 6%, while the Shor Party and the PPPDA would be at the limit of entering Parliament.
“The PSRM’s result in the poll does not reflect the evident “wedding” with the Shor Party. They will gain about 15 seats and will be history. Therefore, they do not want snap elections now as the citizens will penalize them. The results of the IRI poll are very credible. It is the only poll that showed that Maia Sandu will have a better score than Igor Dodon at the presidential elections,” Sergiu Litvinenco stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
On the other hand, the Socialists said the PAS would do their best to attract the voters of the PPPDA and Renato Usayi’s party would be the surprise of the next elections.
“The goal of the PAS is to enlarge its group and they don’t care that people die and the cemeteries are full. The PPPDA will not enter the future Parliament and the PAS aims to assimilate this party and to cause its political death. I think we will have surprises and at least one new party will enter the future Parliament.
The representatives of the PAS said they expect to obtain at least 55 seats of MP as polls do not include the votes of the diaspora. If they do not gain a majority of seats in the future Parliament, they will make an alliance with the PPPDA.
“The PPPDA has real chances of entering the next Parliament and I hope this will happen and we will form a coalition with the PPPDA and will implement serious reforms to improve people’s lives,” stated Sergiu Litvinenco.
The Socialists do not rule out the possibility of forming a coalition with the PAS in the next Parliament, according to the experience of 2019.
“It’s clear that the next Parliament will be a coalition one and I consider there will be a broad coalition. We could ally with the PAS. They earlier swore they would not ally with us, but did it ultimately,” stated Grigore Novac.
The poll of the International Republican Institute covered a sample 2,001 persons from all over Moldova (except for the Transnistrian region) and was carried out between February 9, 2021 and March 16, 2021. The margin of sampling error is plus/minus 2.4%.
