The amendments to the Audiovisual Media Services Code apply exclusively to non-linear media services – that is, online platforms that operate similarly to television, with organized, regular and regular broadcasting of audiovisual content. The president of the Audiovisual Council, Liliana Vitu, has clarified the matter, saying that not all regulation means censorship, IPN reports.
“The recent amendments to the Media Services Code only concern non-linear media services, which will be obliged to comply with the provisions on ensuring public information, i.e. correct information. Illegal content is also banned,” Liliana Vitu told JurnalTV’s “Cabinetul din Umbra”,
The CA President stressed that the new rules do not apply to all content creators, but only to those who broadcast audiovisual material in an organized, regular and regular way – like TV broadcasters.
“Nonlinear media service must look like a television. One person posting every now and then is not non-linear media service. Not every content creator is non-linear media service, whether they have influence or not. If you behave like a television online, you are a non-linear media service,” said Liliana Vitu.
Regarding illegal content, she said that the definition of illegal content comes from European Union law. She rejected the idea that these regulations were a form of censorship. “Online has to be responsible, just like offline. If content is illegal offline, it is also illegal online. Online is not a holy cow, it must have responsibilities. Consumer trends are that online is already on top. There is a large part of the population that gets its information from online. It is wrong to say that any regulation automatically means censorship,” the CA chief explained.
Liliana Vitu said that the role of the Audiovisual Council is to monitor linear and non-linear media services, not to censor or block opinions, but to ensure compliance with the law on fair information and to protect the public from illegal content.
