Over 81,000 electors voted in Romanian parliamentary elections in Moldova

Slightly over 81,000 citizens voted on Saturday and Sunday at the 59 polling stations established in the Republic of Moldova for the parliamentary elections of Romania. The turnover is similar to that at the Romanian presidential election a week ago, IPN reports.

According to data from the Permanent Electoral Authority, a total of over 775,000 Romanians voted at the 950 polling stations abroad. In Romania, 9.4 million electors voted, which is 52.50% of the number of voters put on the permanent lists.

The Romanians voted for 329 deputies and 136 senators. According to the provisional results posted on the Authority’s website, with over 99% of the minutes counted, the Social Democratic Party is shown to have accumulated 22.74% of the votes for the Senate and 22.55% for the Chamber of Deputies, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians – 18.14% and 17.83%, respectively, the National Liberal Party – 14.43% and 13.48%, the Save Romania Union – 12% and 12.10%, SOS Romania – 7.58% and 7.17%, UDMR – 6.50% and 6.45%, the Party of Young People – 6.24% and 6.30%, SENS – 2.82% and 2.97%, respectively.

In Romania, the electoral threshold for entering Parliament is at least 5% of the valid votes cast at national level for political parties, 8% – for political alliances formed by two parties, 9% – for alliances formed by three parties, and 10% – for alliances consisting of four or more parties.

The Romanian citizens are expected to go to the polls again at the end of this week, when the second round of the election to choose the President of Romania will take place.
