On the national holiday “Our Language”, grammar enthusiasts are invited to try their skills at the Great National Dictation, to be held in the Opera and Ballet Square starting at 09:30. President Maia Sandu will be present, and so will Minister of Education Dan Perciun.
The Chisinau City Hall, too, has announced a series of events on August 31. At 9:00, flowers will be laid at the monuments of the poet Mihai Eminescu in the namesake square and at the Classics’ Alley. Starting at 16:00, the “Books come to life” public reading event for children will take place on the Eugen Doga Pedestrian Street. At 17:00, a poetry recitation contest dedicated to first graders will take place.
A musical show titled “In the same language” will start at 19:00, Accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Dumitru Cârciumaru, the singers Mariana Bulicanu, Cristina Scarlat, Natalia Barbu, Cătălin Josan, Radu Dolgan, Adriana Babin, Tania Cerga, and the bands Brio Sonores, and Vitalie&Cătălin Advahov will perform. The show will also feature poetry recitals by the actor Nicolae Jelescu. The Romanian Language Day festivities organized by the Chisinau City Hall will culminate with a gig by the Cristofor Aldea Teodorovici Orchestra.
On Thursday, the Romanian Academy and the Moldova Academy of Sciences will hold a joint festive meeting dedicated to the Romanian Language. On its sidelines, the Twelfth Congress of Eminescu Scholars will take place.
Finally, the Mihai Eminescu National Theater will present a poetry performance themed “The Romanian Language is my Homeland”. Admission is free.
