The snap parliamentary elections could be held in August or September. According to politicians, this is the most reasonable period for holding the elections if a large number of citizens are vaccinated until then. Some of the representatives of parties are dissatisfied with the fact that the country will be governed by the Ciocoi Government at least until October as this executive does not have full powers and cannot handle the pandemic and economic crisis, IPN reports.
According to representatives of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, if the judges of the Constitutional Court ascertain the circumstances for the dissolution of Parliament, the snap elections will take place in August-September. The scenario is optimistic and is conditional on the massive vaccination of people.
“The speed at which they vaccinate the people in the Republic of Moldova does not offer bright perspectives. We will have to wait until August or September so as to have a more or less sufficient guarantee for holding the elections. Until October, we will remain with this absolutely irresponsible Government,” secretary general of the PPPDA Ion Terguță stated in the talk show “Expertise Hour” at JurnalTV channel.
Representatives of the Party of Action and Solidarity expressed their conviction that the CC judges will decide to dissolve Parliament as all the necessary conditions were met.
“Constitutional law experts say there are preconditions for dissolving Parliament if a Government is not invested during 90 days or two attempts to vote in a Government fail during a period of 45 days. Even if that statement on the Parliament’s disagreement with the dissolution was adopted, no one annuls the Constitution,” said PAS MP Lilian Carp.
The representatives of Our Party also insist on holding snap elections as swiftly as possible.
“I wonder how the elections will be held in Gagauzia in May? Why don’t they insist on vaccinating everyone in Gagauzia so as that the elections could be held their later? How will they collect signatures for proposing candidates in times of a pandemic?” asked the vice president of Our Party Elena Gritsko.
The last opinion poll published by IMAS shows 41% of the respondents would like a new Government to be invested by those who can form a majority in Parliament, without holding snap elections. On the other hand, 36% want elections to be held as swiftly as possible. According to the Central Election Commission, the eventual snap elections would cost the state budget 120 million lei.
