The USA revises trade exchanges with Russia

A bill has been proposed to the American Congress, to reinstate an amendment that would prevent the United States of America from conducting “any trade exchange” with the Russian Federation, reports IPN.

The initiator of the proposal, Joe Wilson, a member of the House of Representatives, stated that former American President Barack Obama and former Senator John Kerry, then Secretary of State, erroneously repealed the said law during the misguided “reset” with Russia. According to Wilson, this would have encouraged the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, to annex Crimea.

This kind of amendment was adopted by American lawmakers in 1974. The act generated restrictions on trade with countries that hinder emigration and violate human rights. Since 1989, the US government has annually extended the moratorium on the amendment in regard to the Soviet Union and subsequently, Russia. In 2012, the then US President, Barack Obama, announced the repeal of the document.
