The first part of a consignment of military equipment to the value of US$5 million was handed over to the National Army of the Republic of Moldova. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova, the assistance is designed to help implement the plan for developing and transforming the National Army in accordance with the National Defense Strategy and the Defense Capacity Building Initiative, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi, the event is a follow-up to the systemic reforms initiated by the Ministry of Defense in 2018 in the context of the achievement of the objective to reform and modernize the defense and security sector.
The military equipment will help increase the capacity and interoperability for taking part in international peacekeeping operations. “The delivery of the equipment was possible thanks to the good cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America that was established in time,” stated the official.
The lot will be shipped in several parts until the end of this year.
The Moldovan-American cooperation in the defense sector is governed by the memorandum on cooperation in the military sector signed by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. Department of Defense on December 4, 1995.
