European Union offers Moldova 50 million euro

The European Union is allocating a 50 million euro tranche to Moldova. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced this after her meeting with the country’s President Maia Sandu.

“Today we have allocated €50 million to support reforms and economic stability. We also look forward to the opening of the crucial cluster of accession negotiations in 2025”, Ursula von der Leyen wrote on her official website.

The talks between head of state Maia Sandu and Ursula von der Leyen centered on the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the press service of the presidential institution announced. During the meeting, it was agreed to speed up the justice reform with European support.

“Assessing the integrity of judges and prosecutors remains a priority. We also discussed European investments that improve the lives of Moldovans by creating jobs, modernizing roads, developing villages and strengthening energy security”, said President Maia Sandu.

Maia Sandu, who is in Brussels for two days, is due to hold meetings with new or re-elected leaders of the European Union, as well as with the new head of NATO, Mark Rutte.
