Since the beginning of this year, border police officers in Iași have confiscated the Romanian identity cards of approximately 870 people with dual Moldovan and Romanian citizenship. The reason was their fictitious residence in Romania, according to the romanian press, quoted by IPN.
According to the source, since the beginning of 2025, at the border crossing points of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, on the territory of Iasi County, approximately 870 identity cards that no longer constituted Romanian travel documents were seized. These were forwarded to the issuing authorities.
Contacted by IPN, the spokesperson for the Romanian Border Police, sub-commissioner Laurentiu-Valentin David, confirmed the seizure of around 870 identity cards.
In the case of Moldovan citizens, who have made residence visa changes in Romania, law enforcement officials have carried out checks, and for those who were found to have a fictitious domicile, the documents were seized at the crossing point of the Romanian border, in accordance with the current legislation.
