The House of Representatives of the US Congress has adopted a package of sanctions against Russia. This targets Russian officials and oligarchs, banks and financial institutions, as well as the shadow fleet used by Moscow to evade restrictions imposed on oil trade. The package is set to be enacted by the American president, reports NBC News, quoted by IPN.
The bill was adopted with the votes of 262 deputies, with 159 against. The new law gives the US president the authority to impose customs duties of up to 100% on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, such as China and India. An exception is provided for countries that reduce their dependence on imports of oil and gas from Russia and for those whose imports represent less than 15% of Russia’s total annual gas exports.
At the same time, the package extends the existing sanctions against Iran, maintaining the sanctions targeting the financing of Tehran’s energy and military sectors.
