Two civilians have died, and another two have been injured following a drone attack on the Starokazacie border crossing point in Ukraine, last night. The nationality of the victims is not yet known. Following the attack, the activity of the Tudora-Starokazacie crossing point has been suspended, reports IPN.
According to the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova, the State Border Service of Ukraine has reported that, between 11:35 PM and 12:05 AM, the Starokazacie crossing point was attacked by a drone. Two other unmanned aircraft fell near the crossing point, on Ukrainian territory.
As a result of the attack, the infrastructure of the Ukrainian border crossing point was affected, and the activity of the Tudora (Republic of Moldova) – Starokazacie (Ukraine) crossing point was halted.
The Border Police specifies that, at 11:35 PM, all individuals at the crossing point were evacuated. Approximately at 11:40 PM, a mobile patrol of the Border Police heard four explosions and observed the light produced by the explosions on Ukrainian territory, in the direction of Tudora-Starokazacie. At that moment, an air alert was established in Ukraine.
Subsequently, at 01:45 AM, the Ukrainian authorities announced that, following the drone attack on the Starokazacie point, two civilians had died, and another two were injured. The nationality of the victims has not yet been determined.
According to the Border Police, all procedural measures provided by law have been undertaken on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Up to now, no drone fragments or other objects posing risks to the population’s security have been identified in the border area on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The competent authorities continue to monitor the situation and maintain contact with the authorities in Ukraine. At the same time, the authorities urge those who hear specific drone noises or explosions to remain calm and take shelter in a safe space, inside their homes.
People are also warned not to approach any potential remnants of flying devices, ammunition, or other unknown objects, and to immediately notify the authorities by dialing the emergency number 112.
