Approximately 400 trees were illegally cut down in the Vadul lui Voda forest district. Environmental inspectors discovered stumps covered with leaves and soil at the scene. According to the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, the total damage exceeds one million lei, reports IPN.
The inspection was carried out at forestry canton no. 7, within the Chisinau Forestry Enterprise. The inspectors identified 394 stumps of trees of various species. The volume of the stolen timber is 250.05 cubic meters, and the value was estimated at almost 370 thousand lei.
Therefore, the damage caused by the illegal cutting of trees has been calculated to be over 700 thousand lei. Together with the value of the stolen timber, the total damage to the state forest fund is over one million lei.
The Environmental Protection Inspectorate specifies that the accumulated materials are to be handed over to the legal authorities for the examination of the case circumstances, identification of the responsible individuals and holding them accountable, in accordance with the legislation.
