Over 600 cases of acute diarrheal diseases have been recorded in a week, most of them among children. The National Agency for Public Health states that the number of illnesses has increased by over 20% compared to the previous period, and the epidemiological situation is still being monitored at the national level, reports IPN.
According to ANSP, the highest levels of morbidity were reported in the municipality of Chisinau – 40.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Soldanesti district – 40.1 cases, and the municipality of Balti – 29.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
In the context of surface water monitoring, 42 samples were collected, and in 19 of these, the NAG vibrio (V. cholerae non-O1/non-O139) was detected. ANSP specifies that this does not cause cholera, but it can cause acute diarrheal diseases and is used as an indicator for assessing the quality of waters in the warm season.
The ANSP has completed the epidemiological investigation into the salmonella outbreak recorded in June, following events organized in a hotel unit in Chisinau. As a result of the investigations, 61 affected individuals were identified, and laboratory tests confirmed a common source of infection. After the implementation of control measures, no new cases associated with the outbreak were recorded.
