The European Union has sent Nepal an initial humanitarian flight carrying 82 tons of aid and has allocated an additional 500 thousand euros for intervention following the floods. According to the most recent report, 1,259 people have died, and over five thousand are still reported missing, reports 2eu.brussels, as quoted by IPN.
The flight, organized in conjunction with UNICEF, transported materials for nutrition, water, shelter, education, and protection. The 500 thousand euros will be directed through the emergency fund of the International Red Cross and adds to the two million euros allocated by the European Commission last week.
Through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Luxembourg, Germany, Latvia, and Norway have sent rescue vests, hygiene kits, blankets, medical supplies, and emergency energy sources.
The Nepalese authorities have announced that the injured will receive free medical treatment, and the families of state employees who died while on duty will receive 6,600 dollars each.
The 13th day after the disaster, according to Hindu tradition, was declared a national day of mourning.
