More than 80 criminal cases have been opened on electoral corruption, Viorel Cernauteanu, head of the General Inspectorate of Police Viorel Cernauteanu told Teleradio-Moldova, IPN reports.
“Lately, we have been accelerating the documentation process and, if we analyze the prosecutor’s office’s press releases, various cases are sent to court every day”, Viorel Cernauteanu said.
As far as passive corruption is concerned, i.e. receiving money to support a certain candidate, about 140 thousand people will be documented under the Contravention Code, with a fine of up to 37 thousand lei.
“The 140 thousand citizens who allowed themselves to be corrupted and influenced in this process we have just now finalized the detailed deciphering procedure, absolutely all the data, and I believe that in the shortest time we will proceed to the examination and documentation of these people. But it does not mean that all of them will be sanctioned. Many are cooperating”, Cernauteanu said.
According to the head of the IGP there is a need for continuous improvement of the legislation in order to facilitate the work of law enforcement officers.
“The criminals of the criminal organization Shor have changed at least 5, 6 forms of financing on the territory of the republic in the last year alone, that is why the legal norms must be amended to create legal levers of documentation so that the law institutions can curb these phenomena”, the IGP chief noted.
