Zelenskyy has arrived in Washington for discussions with Trump

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, arrived in Washington on Monday morning, where he will meet with the White House leader, Donald Trump. The meeting takes place after the Trump-Putin summit on Friday in Alaska, reports IPN.

In a social media post, the leader from Kiev mentioned that peace in Ukraine must be sustainable. “Not as it was years ago, when Ukraine was forced to give up Crimea and a part of our East, a part of Donbas, and Putin simply used it as a launch pad for a new attack,” clarified Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reiterating that Russia must end the war it itself started.

On the eve of the meeting, Donald Trump stated in a post on his Truth Social platform that the Ukrainian president could almost immediately end the war with Russia, if he wished, by giving up Crimea and NATO membership.

The Trump-Zelenskyy meeting is scheduled for 08:15 PM, Chisinau time, according to an announcement from the White House. Shortly after, from 10:00 PM, Trump will meet with European leaders.

The Friday summit in Alaska between Trump and Putin, where, although they appreciated the progress made, they did not reach an agreement on ending the fighting in Ukraine. According to foreign press, the leader of the White House is preparing a trilateral summit with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy for Friday, August 22.

Several European leaders, including the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, have announced that they will join the meeting. The international press also writes that the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, an admirer of Trump and his policies, has gone to Washington.
