The Republic of Moldova is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for foreign tourists. In the first six months of the year, approximately 37 thousand visitors from abroad chose to discover Moldova through the packages offered by tourism operators. The figure marks an increase of 44.8% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics, reports IPN.
Although the number of foreign tourists is rapidly increasing, 95% of them are day visitors, while the average stay in the Republic of Moldova is four days.
Romania remains the main provider of tourists, representing 65% of all foreign visitors. In second place is Italy (21.7%), followed by Turkey (2%).
Outbound tourism – that is, Moldovans traveling abroad – recorded 146.4 thousand people in the first six months of the year, continuing to hold the largest share in total tourism activities, namely 64.1%. In contrast to inbound tourism, outbound tourism recorded a modest increase of 3.8% compared to the first half of 2024. A slight increase of 3.1% was also reported in the case of domestic tourism, which attracted 44.8 thousand Moldovans.
