A day of mourning will be declared. President: Moldova was wealthier thanks to Eugen Doga

To pay tribute to the master Eugen Doga, the day of his funeral will be declared a national day of mourning in the Republic of Moldova. State flags will be lowered to half-mast, and public institutions and citizens are urged to observe a moment of silence in memory of the great composer. This was announced by President Maia Sandu, who also transmitted a message of condolences to the family, according to IPN.

“I have learned with sadness about the passing of the great Eugen Doga. I grew up listening to the songs from the movie “Maria Mirabela” and I cried while listening to the music from “Lautarii”. We carry with us everywhere the famous waltz from “Gingasa și tandra mea fiara” and we recognize the maestro’s compositions from the first notes,” wrote Maia Sandu.

The head of state also mentions that Moldova was more beautiful and richer thanks to Eugen Doga. “We bid farewell with pain, but also with gratitude,” the president’s message continues.

Eugen Doga was born in the village of Mocra, Rabnita, on March 1, 1937. He is an Artist of the People of the Republic of Moldova and an Artist of the People of the USSR. He is a recipient of the National Prize and the State Prize of the USSR, a Knight of the Order of the Republic, and other honorary titles and distinctions from both his own country and abroad. He is a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
