The Briceni Health Center is to be outfitted with an advanced ultrasound system to the value of US$72,000 in the framework of a project financed by the Government of Japan through the “Kusanone” Program, IPN reports.
In the ceremony to sign the grant contract, Japan’s Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro said the advanced ultrasound system will facilitate the work of doctors at the Health Center and will help the people living in Briceni district. It will also help Ukrainian refugees accommodated in the district. “We are grateful to and applaud Moldova for showing to the whole world a wonderful example of hospitality offered to refugees. You did this despite the energy crisis and inflation caused by Russia’s war that seriously affected the Republic of Moldova,” stated Yamada Yoichiro.
According to the ambassador, Japan stands by the Republic of Moldova in its aspirations to join the EU. “Even if Japan is not a member of the EU, it shares the same value and government principles as the European Union does, such as democracy, human rights, political legality, transparency, and equality before the law,” noted the diplomat.
Briceni Health Center director Dumitru Gîncul thanked Japan for the assistance. The inhabitants of Briceni district will benefit from modern services provided with the assistance of the new advanced ultrasound system. The existing equipment has been used for over 20 years.
Through the agency of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects “Kusanone” that was launched in Moldova in 2008, Japan so far has offered over US$6.9 million in grant funding for over 80 projects in education, healthcare, and public utilities.
