The epidemiological situation in the municipality of Chisinau is worrisome. Hospitals and polyclinics continue to report a high number of respiratory infections, bronchitis and pneumonias both in children and in adults. The number of cases of flu also rose. Chisinau is on epidemiological alert, if not in a flu pandemic, the chief health officerof Chisinau Boris Gîlca stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions.
The children aged between 5 and 14 and the children younger than four are the most susceptible groups. At the Municipal Clinical Children’s Contagious Diseases Hospital of Chisinau, 110 children were admitted on 100 beds and 67 of these have confirmed flu with different complications of respiratory infections. A similar situation is at Municipal Clinical Children’s Hospital No.1, where 125 children were admitted on 100 beds.
Boris Gîlca said it would be very useful if the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission pronounced on the situation.
A number of 163 cases of flu, 97 of which in children, were recorded in Chisinau last week. It is estimated that the large number of infections will persist until the end of January.
