The PNL candidate for the mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, won the elections with over 36% of the votes. He will occupy the mayor’s seat of the Romanian capital until the summer of 2028, a mandate left vacant after the former mayor Nicusor Dan won the presidential elections in May, reports IPN.
“I want to make Bucharest the project of my life. And not in the short term, but in the long term. Cities that truly change need mayors who are committed for the long term”, emphasized Ciprian Ciucu.
Following the centralization of 100% of the minutes from the polling stations in Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu obtained 211,562 votes, recording the highest number of votes among all candidates.
Ciprian Ciucu, aged 47, has been the mayor of Sector 6 in Bucharest since 2020 and won his second term in the local elections in the summer of 2024. During his first term, he distinguished himself with achievements such as the arrangement of the largest park in Bucharest after 1989, Lacul Morii.
In Romania, the legislation stipulates that the election of mayors takes place in a single round, with the highest number of votes cast.
