Content creators demand “real consultations and clear rules” in the changes to the Media Code

The content creators community requests an extension of the public consultations on the project to amend the Audiovisual Media Services Code and warns that some provisions may affect freedom of speech and the activity of independent creators, even though it has been stated that influencers are not targeted, IPN reports.

In a joint position, signed by 18 creators and the Rockit Academy NGO, it is mentioned that the current text of the project contains ambiguous definitions, unclear rules for platforms such as YouTube, TikTok or Facebook, as well as risks of abuse in the application of sanctions for information considered false. The creators express concern that the new rules could be used abusively, especially in an electoral context.

“We request the extension of consultations and the alignment of provisions to the digital reality in the Republic of Moldova,” states the public appeal of the community. Among the requests made are the clarification of regulations for online creators, their exclusion from categories subject to sanctions in the absence of a proven intention to misinform, the guarantee of freedom of opinion and expression through humor or satire, as well as the assumption of advertising transparency.

A round of consultations is announced for June 30th, at Sămănanca, where the president of the Audiovisual Council, Liliana Vițu, and the parliamentary Committee for Culture and Mass Media, Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, will participate. The organizers mention that the event will be a civic and non-politicized one, focused on finding balanced solutions regarding the regulation of online activities.
