The hospitals in Chisinau are packed with children with acute viral infections, bronchitis and pneumonias. Owing to the large number of patients, the authorities had to increase the number of beds, the chief health officer of Chisinau Boris Gîlca stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions.
“We have a problem with acquire viral infections in the municipality of Chisinau, especially children. It was a critical situation last week, when all the municipal hospitals were overcrowded. We practically do not have free places and therefore provided additional beds and teams… A lot of children with respiratory infections, bronchitis, pneumonias, including respiratory insufficiency, were hospitalized,” stated Boris Gîlca.
In this regard, the municipal authorities requested the Ministry of Health to adjust some of the units of the Mother and Child Institute so that children with pneumonias and respiratory infections could be admitted there. “We were heard. Today the situation remains difficult, but the pressure is not as great as last week,” noted the chief health officer.
In this connection, he called on parents to see the family doctor when their children experience the first symptoms of respiratory infections so as to benefit from appropriate treatment. Self-medication is banned.
