The presence of allegedly European parties at the National Assembly “European Moldova” can generate security and destabilization risks, said the chairman of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing (CUB) Igor Munteanu. The politician voiced hope that the Moldovan authorities, supported by the EU civilian mission, will be able to control the people with diametrically opposed views, IPN reports.
President Maia Sandu announced the convocation of a National Assembly called “European Moldova” for May 21. Parliamentary and extraparliamentary parties announced their intention to take part in the event that is to be staged in the Great National Assembly Square. Among these are the Party of Development and Consolidation of Moldova led by Ion Chicu and the National Alternative Movement led by Ion Ceban.
“I’m not at all delighted at the fact that parties with clear Putinist views try as the painted crow to penetrate into the first lines. I refer to Ion Chicu’s party and to Ivan Ceban’s party. They are not pro-European parties. They are well-organized groups that try to take over so as to thwart our European course. The persons who head these parties repeatedly showed intolerance for the European values,” Igor Munteanu stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.
Also for May 21, representatives of the Party of Socialists and of the Movement for People planned demonstrations. The CUB leader expressed his hope that the police will be able to manage the eventual provocations.
“We hope this resilience building mission that comes in May will be able to add more capacities. The situation at the Ministry of Home Affairs is not brilliant and there is also this nervousness at national level. Over the last few months, forces that oppose the European course have made effort to undermine the current government and to exploit its weaknesses. We hope the authorities will be able to control the people with diametrically opposed views,” stated the CUB leader.
For his part, the member of the Supreme Security Council Iulian Groza said the state institutions showed their capacity to prevent destabilization during the protests staged by the Shor Party. According to the representative of civil society, the police will manage to maintain public order on May 21.
“In the recent past, we saw demonstrations or so-called protests mounted by the Shor Party and the Movement for People. We saw how the authorities managed the situations of risk, the provocations. Today, the authorities are more vigilant. The authorities will be responsible for preventing any security risks. The message and the goal of this event are positive. It is a message aimed at uniting society – all those who consider that Moldova can develop according to the European model. The authorities earlier managed to deal with similar situations in a relatively exemplary way. I hope the gained experience will help them to prevent any kind of provocations,” said the executive director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms Iulian Groza.
The National Assembly “European Moldova” convoked by President Maia Sandu is designed to deliver a firm message about the Moldovan citizens’ wish to be part of the European family to the international community.
