The investigation into the charge of abuse of power made against suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo was finished. Alexandr Stoianoglo is accused of ordering to allocate 163,900 lei in redundancy payment to prosecutor Nicolae Chitoroagă when this was dismissed even if Chitoroagă was being investigated and wasn’t entitled to such payments, IPN reports, quoting a pores release signed by the prosecutor dealing with the case.
The prosecutor assigned by the Superior Council of Prosecutors is handling one more criminal case in which the suspended prosecutor general is charged on four counts.
Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is suspended from office while under investigation on charges of abuse of office, passive corruption, perjury and facilitation of crime, is under house arrest. Stoianoglo denies any wrongdoing. Following a request made by President Maia Sandu, Alexandr Stoianoglo’s job as prosecutor general is being assessed by a commission constituted by the Superior Council of Prosecutors. If this finds that Alexandr Stoianoglo inappropriately fulfilled his duties, he can be dismissed.
