Moldova will receive a 300 million Japanese yen (1.8 million euros) grant to support farmers. The grant agreement between the Moldovan Government and the Government of Japan was signed today in Chisinau.
Nicu Popescu, Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, noted that our country is affected by the repercussions of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The agricultural sector is among those affected. The authorities have been able to mitigate the negative impact thanks to the support of our country’s development partners, including Japan. “The agreement signed today demonstrates once again the support provided to our country and strengthens the ability of the economy, the agricultural sector and farmers to develop”, declared Popescu.
For his part, Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Yamada Yoichiro said that the grant will support farmers by offering them complex fertilizers at affordable prices. The war started by Russia in Ukraine has put Moldova in difficulty as well. The country has had to face multiple challenges, but it resists valiantly. Japan regards Moldova not only as an economic development partner, but also as a political and diplomatic partner. Japan noted Moldova’s effort and supports it in its European journey, added the ambassador.
