Judge, criminally investigated for driving under the influence

A judge will be criminally investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol or in a state of intoxication caused by other substances. The Superior Council of Magistracy has approved the request of the interim Attorney General, Alexandru Machidon, to allow the initiation of criminal proceedings against the magistrate, reports IPN.

According to the CSM, the interim general prosecutor’s action was initiated following the evaluation of circumstances that might indicate possible criminal acts allegedly committed by the judge. Under the law, the initiation of criminal proceedings against a judge requires the prior consent of the CSM.

During the meeting, the members of the CSM reviewed the materials submitted by the General Prosecutor’s Office behind closed doors. Following the deliberations, the Council unanimously accepted the request of the general prosecutor and granted permission for the initiation of criminal proceedings against the targeted judge.

The Superior Council of Magistracy reiterates that judges can be held criminally liable under the law and reaffirms its commitment to promoting integrity, responsibility and transparency in the judicial system.
