Kaja Kallas: Each sanction weakens Russia’s ability to wage war

Europe will not back down in its support for Ukraine. The European Union will continue to increase pressure until Russia ends its war, declared the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, in the context of the 18th package of economic and individual restrictive measures targeting Russia’s energy, banking, and military sectors, as well as its trade with the EU, reports IPN.

“The European Union has just approved one of the toughest sanction packages against Russia to date. Each sanction weakens Russia’s ability to wage war,” stated Kaja Kallas, as quoted in a press release.

According to the European official, through the sanctions adopted, the European Council emphasizes the full responsibility of Russia for the continuation of the war of aggression against Ukraine.

The Council agreed on 55 additions to the restrictive lists, consisting of 14 individuals and 41 entities responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine, raising the total number of persons included on the sanctions lists to over 2500.

Among the main measures approved is the reduction of the price ceiling for Russian oil imposed by the G7. Also, the package introduces prohibitions on transactions related to the Nord Stream pipelines and extends restrictions on the Russian banking sector. The Council supplemented the package by adopting additional measures against Belarus.
