The justice sector reform will be completed and the fight against corruption accelerated, President Maia Sandu stated at the Moldova European Integration Forum. According to the head of state, the aim is to attract young people to the justice system in order to modernize it and make it stronger. Likewise, the fight against political and electoral corruption will be accelerated so that the citizens decide in the country, not the dirty money, IPN reports.
“Clean justice and strong institutions are the best shield against external destabilization. In the coming months and years, our priorities focus on three key areas: justice, economy and security,” said Maia Sandu.
According to the official, attracting new investments remains a challenge in a complicated regional context. Therefore, the support of the European Union, the integration of Moldova’s economy into the single market are the only possibility to develop the economy, to create highly-paying jobs, to provide access to stable and reliable markets.
“The economy of the Republic of Moldova has been subjected to a tough test, but we resist. After the outbreak of the war on the border, we avoided the mass departure of investors and continued to orient the economy towards the European Union. Do you know that Moldova is the largest exporter of plums in the European Union? It is an ordinary example, but it illustrates our potential. The economy requires investments, including in infrastructure, and producers need greater access to large and stable markets,” stated Maia Sandu.
The Republic of Moldova also aims to invest in state security so as to build a resilient system. Maia Sandu assured that these efforts will allow Moldova to face regional challenges, guarantee peace and protect the independence and sovereignty of the country.
“For us, the EU means peace in an increasingly unstable world. It means an economy that offers opportunities for all. It means the freedom to decide our future without external influences. And, at the same time, it means capacity to respond to global challenges, such as climate change,” said the official.
Maia Sandu also highlighted the achievements of the last two years in the European integration process. She noted that Moldova submitted the EU membership application, obtained the status of candidate country, gained the respect and trust of the 27 member states and European institutions, opened negotiations and is in the screening process. The next step is to open negotiations on the first group of chapters in spring.
The 10th edition of the Moldova European Integration Forum is held in Chisinau.
