Despite the dramatic situation in the region, Moldova and Ukraine are implemeting complicated reforms and making concrete steps to accelerate the initiation of EU accession negotiations. President Maia Sandu discussed how important peace and freedom are for the two states with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a bilateral meeting in Athens on the sidelines of a summit.
The officials spoke about the transit of Ukrainian grain through Moldovan territory, about the latest developments on the front and about the European course of the two states. Also, the presidents spoke about the third Crimea Platform Summit, to take place on Wednesday. Moldova will be represented at this high-level event by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
“Moldova enjoys peace today thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian people. Moldova stands with Ukraine, with the Ukrainians who are fighting to defend their land and the right to decide their own future”, declared the Moldovan president.
Maia Sandu also noted that this week Moldova and Ukraine are celebrating their Independence Days.
