President Maia Sandu welcomes the two resolutions adopted by the Italian Parliament in support of Moldova’s accession to the EU. “We appreciate Italy’s support for our journey to the EU and the commitment to improve bilateral relations”, the Moldovan president posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, too, welcomed the decisions taken by the Committee for Foreign and European Affairs of the Italian Parliament, which voted unanimously to support the Moldova’s EU membership bid. “This is a strong signal of solidarity and friendship”, wrote Nicu Popescu on X.
According to Salvatore Caiata, the chair of the Commission for Foreign and European Affairs of the Italian Parliament, the resolutions are a step towards welcoming two countries that have been waiting too long to join the European family. At the same time, it engages the Italian Parliament and Government to plead for the integration of the two states into the EU.
The Italian lawmakers appreciate Moldova’s firm position against Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and the country’s position towards the European path. They also appreciated the progress in domestic reforms.
