A man from Chisinau was detained in a case of influence peddling. He is suspected of having asked for 1.5 million lei from a person for influencing particular public officials, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the suspect, asserting that he has influence over particular public officials whom he can persuade to adopt a favorable decision in a tax evasion case, allegedly asked €35,000 (the equivalent of over 670,000 lei) from a person and, after receiving a part of the amount, asked to be paid the rest of the money.
The same man, who claimed to have influence over persons who are closely related to public officials of the Chisinau City Hall, asked for and received €25,000 (the equivalent of about 480,000 lei) for preparing permissive documents in order to modify the urban area of a lot of land situated in the municipality of Chisinau.
Following searches, NAC officers seized objects and documents relevant to the case.
